Ulaanbaatar is a small capital city, but finding what you need can be difficult.
Getting Around Town Finding specific offices, buildings and restaurants can be hard since few have a proper street address. Getting a basic understanding of the district names will help since places are designated by their building and district number. So, pick up a tourist map in any of the shops to help you find your way around the city. Just remember that Peave Avenue runs east-west and Bogd Uul Mountain is in the south. They are good landmarks to will help you to not get lost.
Public Transportation Buses in the city are cheap (Tg200 for any distance). However, they can be very crowded during peak hours. You will find bus routes arked on street maps in Latin letters. If you are in a hurry, hop into a minibus--they travel similar routes and you'll get to your destination much faster. Train Station

Taxis In 1999, a small fleet of yellow taxis appeared in the Capital. All in all, there are few professional taxis. If you can, use the official taxis as they use a meter and will not overcharge you. All other private cars potentially are cabs. Just flag one down and agree on price per kilometer. About Tg300 per kilometer is a fare price. This is a safe way of getting around the capital but women should avoid traveling alone. You can get a taxi in front of the Ulaanbaatar Hotel, Freedom Square, and the Zanabazar Museum. You can also call Mongol Taxi, tel: 455-322 or Taxi Ulaanbaatar, tel: 311-385
Shopping The shops near downtown sell many curios, antiques, art, and fine winter clothes. You will find nice leather jackets, cashmere sweaters, camel wool vests and blankets at very good prices. Official opening and closing hours are not always followed so be ready to change your schedule and be flexable. The Central Market is open from 10am to 6pm every day except Tuesdays. Hop onto the number 21 bus from Peace Avenue or use a private minibus, or a taxi.
Food Markets and Shops We recomend Mercury, just off Seoul Street. Dalai Eej market is in the same complex. They are open daily.
Foodland near the Wrestling Palace--but it has a limited selection.
