Tourism in Mongolia

Mongolia is a tourist's dream come true. It is the last great place on earth. It is one of the last unspoiled tourist destination in the world. Located between Russia and China, it is three times the size of France with a population of only 2.7 million people. This makes it also one of the most sparsely inhabited countries in the world.

Adding to its spectacular open spaces, it is also one of the highest countries in the world with an average elevation of 1580 metres. The highest peak is called, Tavanbogd Uul, reaching 4374 metres. There you will find a magestic glacier towering of Mongolia, Russia and China.

The Mongolian climate is extreme with long winters. But it has over 250 sunny days a year and is also known as the "Land of Blue Sky." Inbetween the peaks, you will find austere deserts. In other parts of Mongolia you will find saltwater and freshwater lakes. Lake Hovsgol is the largest lake in Mongolia. The southern third part of Mongolia is dominated by the Gobi Desert. Believe it or not, you can find snow there as late as April.

Dozens of travel companies have popped up in Ulaanbaatar these past few years. A few have earned a good reputation for reliable services and eco-tourism trips. The list of travel agencies based in Mongolia is growing and you can find several good companies in Mongolia.
