Worth mentioning is Mongolia’s great hospitality—a common practice in many nomadic cultures.
Travelers are welcomed and given shelter in the round nomadic homes called Gers which is rather cozy. They will offer the traveler cheese, yogurt, and Airag—fermented mares milk that is loved by all even those living in the city. Strangers are welcome almost anytime since temperatures dip 20’C and 30’C degrees below zero in the winter, the warmth of a Ger is deeply appreciated and you never know when you’ll need one so you always welcome others as a common practice. Mongolians cherish their neighbors and often have to work together to build shelter for their animals as one family is not large enough to get the job done. For nomads, working together makes their difficult way of life easier. Cooperation, politeness and considerate behavior towards others are a very important part of Mongolian society and culture. |
